From our studio in Folsom, Louisiana, Bayou Guardian captures the quiet power and mysterious beauty of the Louisiana wetlands. A majestic alligator rests on a weathered cypress knee, its textured hide and watchful gaze rendered with intricate pyrography lines that bring the creature vividly to life against the natural grain of the wood. The background unfolds into a serene bayou scene with soft water reflections, delicate reeds, and distant cypress trees fading into a glowing horizon of blended pigments — creating depth and atmosphere that draws the viewer deep into the heart of the swamp.
This piece is hand-burned into a thick, live-edge crosscut of sinker cypress, honoring the rich history and character of wood salvaged from centuries-old submerged logs. The natural contours and beautiful grain of the wood are preserved and enhanced, allowing the burned lines and hand-applied pigments to harmonize with the organic form. Mounted on a simple wooden easel for display, it stands as both a striking wall piece and a sculptural object that celebrates Louisiana’s wild landscapes.
Each work in our Woodburn & Epoxy collection is individually hand-burned and colored using a precision pyrography tool, layered pigments (colored pencils, inks, acrylics, and watercolors), and proprietary techniques. No two pieces are ever identical, as the natural grain and knots of the wood influence the final composition. Bayou Guardian embodies the meditative dialogue between fire, pigment, and ancient wood that defines our approach to pyrography.
