Shrimping at Dawn - Lake Pontchartrain
Where the Tchefuncte meets the lake
This 24”× 36” woodburned painting, framed in distressed wood, captures the expansive view from Madisonville where the Tchefuncte River empties into Lake Pontchartrain. Shrimp boats work the waters while seagulls and brown pelicans circle overhead, with the historic Madisonville Lighthouse visible in the distance. Rendered in acrylics and watercolors, the piece conveys the vast sky, soft morning light, and timeless rhythm of working the Louisiana waters.
The inspiration came from many mornings spent in the area, watching the boats and the birds against the changing sky. It is both a landscape and a tribute to the working life of the lake.
