Beignets & Coffee Illusion Glass
Café au Lait Glow
This luminous Illusion Glass work captures the quintessential New Orleans morning: a plate of golden beignets dusted with powdered sugar, a steaming cup of café au lait, and a water glass on the traditional green tabletop, all rendered in the swirling, expressive line style of Van Gogh. Hand-painted with specialized European enamel glass paints that fuse permanently to the surface upon firing, the beignets shimmer with textured clarity—clear glass microbeads applied to evoke the sugary dusting—while the coffee and surroundings glow with rich, layered warmth in soft greens, creamy whites, and warm ambers.
The circular composition is framed in traditional lead came construction, accented by hand-twisted copper wirework that forms elegant, organic tendrils and supports. A beautiful complimentary dangle—multifaceted pink, soft green, and aurora borealis (AB) crystal beads, crystallized spacers, and bronze accents—cascades beneath, completed by an adorable custom pewter coffee mug charm. The piece is suspended from a custom copper hanging element and rests above a silverplated cup and saucer embellished with epoxied coffee beans, evoking a gentle sense of abundance and comfort.
Designed with a deliberate dual nature, it reveals its full magic in two lights: radiant and translucent when natural daylight shines through from behind, unveiling vibrant depth and illusion; painterly and richly atmospheric when viewed in ambient indoor light or shade, appearing as a glowing, hand-painted composition suspended in time.
