Cypress Bayou Mirage Lamp Table

Cypress Bayou Mirage

A still Louisiana swamp, held beneath clear water and warm light

This original lamp table recreates a quiet bayou in layered epoxy. Five hand-painted real crawfish and eight minnows rest among driftwood and pecky cypress. Hand-sculpted cypress knees rise through the surface alongside polymer clay Louisiana irises — stems, buds, and leaves carefully formed and placed. Natural leaves, wood stems, and water grasses carpet the swamp floor, giving the tabletop true depth and the suggestion of slow, hidden movement.

Nearly one and a half gallons of epoxy seal the entire scene in a 1.5-inch-thick pour. The plants and knees are positioned around the lamp post so the light appears to reflect naturally into the water itself. The wood pedestal is whitewashed and wrapped in authentic crawfish netting, ending in a decorative mosaic of epoxied pebbles on a solid circular base finished with painted green trim. A speckled amber crushed-glass globe and soft oval shade complete the lamp, casting a warm glow across the lazy bayou below.

Every element — the real crawfish, the sculpted forms, the natural materials, the deep resin — was chosen and placed by hand to capture the quiet beauty of a south Louisiana swamp.
