Cypress Crab Tide Pool Table
Cypress Crab Tide Pool
Three rare slabs of pecky sinker cypress — rainbow, yellow, and green — form the living surface of this commissioned tide pool table. The wood, recovered from Louisiana waters and prized for its uncommon color, holds a complete underwater world beneath clear epoxy.
Three taxidermized and hand-painted Lake Pontchartrain crabs rest among local shells, sand, and polymer clay barnacles made in the studio. The scene is built in full 360-degree depth so the water feels continuous from every angle. Complementary pecky cypress driftwood was added to the client’s own table base, then burned and sealed with wax oil. A copper-wired box crab trap sits as a quiet, playful accent.
It is both furniture and a contained Louisiana shoreline — heavy, luminous, and complete.
