Hungry Gator Illusion Glass

Bayou Hunger in Painted Flame

Louisiana Alligator in Primal Predatory Intensity

This luminous Illusion Glass work captures the raw, primal intensity of a Louisiana alligator in full predatory focus—jaws wide, eyes locked, ready to strike with unapologetic hunger. Hand-painted with specialized European enamel glass paints that fuse permanently to the surface upon firing, the gator’s armored scales, gaping maw, and muscular form glow with fierce depth and vivid power—burning orange sunsets, deep olive greens, warm yellows, and subtle metallic golds creating an illusion of living menace suspended in glass.

The circular composition is framed in traditional lead came construction, accented by hand-twisted copper wirework that forms bold, organic tendrils and supports. Crystal and glass bead embellishments add sharp sparkle and rhythmic tension. The piece is suspended from a custom copper hanging element and rests above a customized bowl base, evoking murky, sunlit shallows of the bayou where instinct rules.

Designed with a deliberate dual nature, it reveals its full magic in two lights: radiant and translucent when natural daylight shines through from behind, unveiling vibrant depth and illusion; painterly and richly atmospheric when viewed in ambient indoor light or shade, appearing as a glowing, hand-painted composition suspended in time.
