This circular basswood crosscut captures one of the last glowing sunsets over the historic fishing village of Bucktown before Hurricane Katrina forever changed the landscape. Hand-burned with precise pyrography and brought to life with layered inks, watercolors, and specialty colored pencils, the piece preserves the warm light reflecting on the water, the silhouette of the old pier, and the quiet, at-home feeling the village once gave.
The work was inspired by the spectacular sunsets the artist witnessed there and the deep desire to hold onto a memory of simpler days along the water.
