Blue Crab Tide Pool – Magnolia Memory
Life Captured Between Tide and Grain
Salvaged from a cutoff piece of magnolia while building a river table, this original work brings a miniature tide pool to vibrant life. Real taxidermy blue crabs — trapped and prepared by the artist — rest naturally among sand, local seashells, and authentic netting, all permanently encased in two gallons of crystal-clear epoxy. The live-edge magnolia wood is finished to a soft, tactile matte with Rubio Monocoat, while the epoxy surface shines like glass, allowing the underwater scene to be viewed from every angle with remarkable clarity and depth.
Mounted on a sturdy black metal ring stand, this piece becomes a true conversation starter — a preserved slice of Louisiana’s coastal ecosystem that captures the living edge where tide meets ancient wood.
The inspiration came from the desire to honor the vibrant, ever-changing world of the Gulf Coast tide pools. Every detail, from the crabs’ natural positioning to the subtle textures of sand and shell, was crafted with reverence for the delicate balance of nature.
Materials: Salvaged live-edge magnolia wood, real taxidermy blue crabs, sand, local seashells, authentic netting, crystal-clear epoxy resin, Rubio Monocoat finish, black metal ring stand.
Dimensions: Tabletop size approximately 16” wide × 19” long × 1.5” deep. Total height on stand: 20” from floor (exact dimensions vary slightly with the natural wood edge shape).
Price: $2,150
Purchasing Note: Serious inquiries welcome. Message for additional photos, shipping quote (fully insured professional packing required due to size and weight), or payment options. This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork. Limited similar commissions may be available on request.
Location: Louisiana, USA
