From our studio in Folsom, Louisiana, this luminous Camellia Illusion Glass captures the exquisite grace of a camellia in full bloom. Hand-painted with specialized European enamel glass paints that fuse permanently to the surface upon firing, the delicate petals and leaves are rendered with subtle gradients and rich depth. The camellia glows vibrantly when natural light passes through from behind, and reveals itself as a richly painterly botanical study under ambient indoor light.
The circular composition is framed in traditional lead came construction, accented by hand-twisted copper wirework that forms elegant tendrils and organic supports. The piece is suspended from a custom copper hanging element and rests above a flared, customized glass bowl base, creating a gentle sense of downward flow and quiet abundance. Daylight transforms the blossoms into luminous jewels, while evening illumination softens the painted petals into a warm, enduring presence.
This work is a meditation on the camellia’s enduring beauty and the interplay of light. It invites the viewer to linger, watching light move through the painted petals as if the bloom were unfolding in perpetual spring. Created through more than 40 hours of meticulous handwork, every Camellia Illusion Glass is a singular original. Natural variations in glass, pigment, and light refraction ensure that no two pieces are ever identical.
