From our studio in Folsom, Louisiana, this luminous Dragonfly Sunset Illusion Glass reimagines the dragonfly as a twilight sentinel, its crimson wings spread wide against a mesmerizing sunset sky in the bold, elegant style of Art Deco. Hand-painted with specialized European enamel glass paints that fuse permanently to the surface upon firing, the dragonfly, its iridescent body, and surrounding cattails glow with rich depth and dramatic vibrancy. Crimson and scarlet wings, lavender accents, turquoise waters, gold-highlighted reeds, and a marbled orange sun against a moody deep purple sky create an illusion of fleeting, living beauty suspended in glass.
The circular composition is framed in traditional lead came construction and accented by hand-twisted copper wirework that forms graceful, geometric tendrils and supports reminiscent of Deco’s luxurious lines. Swarovski crystals are embedded in the wings and eyes for brilliant sparkle, while a simple yet beautiful crystal and metallic dangle completes the piece. The work is suspended from a custom copper hanging element and rests above a customized bowl base, evoking the quiet drama of dusk over still waters.
Designed with a deliberate dual nature, it reveals its full magic in two lights: radiant and translucent when natural daylight shines through from behind, unveiling vibrant depth and illusion; painterly and richly atmospheric when viewed in ambient indoor light or shade, appearing as a glowing, hand-painted composition suspended in time.
