Triple New Orleans Shotgun House Row
Graceful New Orleans Ladies
This vibrant 1/24-scale miniature captures the soul and architectural charm of a classic New Orleans block. Created over more than 200 combined hours by Sandra Young, the piece features three distinct shotgun houses, each with its own separate porch, beautifully unified yet individually expressive.
The left house glows in sunny yellow with bold teal trim and purple accents. The center camelback shotgun stands tall in classic blue with crisp white details and clay tiled roofline trim — its raised second story a hallmark of traditional New Orleans design that allowed for extra living space while maintaining the iconic narrow shotgun profile. The right house shines in soft sage green with striking persimmon colored shutters.
Every element was meticulously handcrafted: weathered slate roofs with hand-sculpted terracotta style clay ridge tiles, painted and/or molded gingerbread trim, delicate lace-like transoms, brick foundations, hanging plants, flower pots, and carefully arranged miniature gardens. A continuous custom black “iron” fence with four fleur-de-lis gates ties the three homes together while preserving the individual character of each porch. Tiny, thoughtful details — a small dog on the porch, colorful potted plants, lace curtains in the windows, and soft interior LED lighting — give the piece that special “lived-in” feeling.
Dimensions: Houses together 19” wide × 23” long overall (base measures 24” × 27”, 1” thick). The central camelback rises to 16” tall.
Materials & Techniques: Hand-cut and painted wood and PVC, individually cut roofing shingles, custom-mixed acrylics for authentic weathering, polymer, epoxy, and airdry clay details, miniature landscaping, and burlap-textured base. Every component was shaped, painted, and assembled entirely by hand.
